Club head: look for cracks, chips, dents, or deep scratches not visible in photos. Check the face for groove wear — heavily worn grooves reduce spin and performance.
Hosel: grab the head firmly and check for any wobble or looseness. A loose hosel may indicate a re-shaft or an impact that loosened the bond.
Shaft: flex the shaft gently and run your fingers along it looking for hairline cracks, bends, or flat spots. Graphite shafts are particularly prone to hidden micro-fractures after a ground strike.
Shaft labels: check the sticker or markings for flex (R, S, X, L), shaft model, and length if relevant to your game.
Grip: squeeze the grip firmly — a good grip should feel tacky. Shiny, hard, or slippery grips are worn out. Grips cost £5–15 each to replace, so factor that into your offer if they need replacing.
